The Moth is the acclaimed national storytelling organization that The Wall Street Journal calls “New York’s hippest, hottest literary event.” In December 2010, I was lucky to get picked to perform at a Moth StorySLAM at NYC’s The Bitter End. The theme was Progress. I’d taken a vignette from my one-woman show (then called I Will Be Good, now called How to Draw a Nekkid Man) about attending my first days at art school and learning how to draw from a model — the infamous nekkid man.
That night I began a wonderful relationship with The Moth. My StorySLAM piece was featured on the Peabody Award-winning The Moth Radio Hour and broadcast on more than 250 NPR stations to an audience surpassing one million. Next, I was invited to appear on The Moth Mainstage to tell an extended version of the story, now entitled “How to Draw a Nekkid Man” (just like my one-woman show). This version was included on The Best of The Moth Radio Hour CD Vol. 19 and podcast on The Moth. As of March 2012, the podcast was downloaded more than a quarter million times!
Now, I’m traveling with The Moth on the Road, which is terrific fun. And now, a fun promotional video for The Moth Radio Hour — was delighted to get a cameo!
